With modern technology and a clear focus on sustainable shipping, Jantar Unity has now made its entrance into the Port of Trelleborg. The new LNG hybrid vessel not only strengthens the route between Trelleborg and Swinoujscie – but also the role of Port of Trelleborg as a hub for future maritime transport.
On Wednesday, January 21, Unity Line’s new vessel Jantar Unity was welcomed into the Port of Trelleborg ahead of its maiden voyage to Swinoujscie in Poland. The vessel departed at 10:15 a.m. after a welcoming ceremony where Port of Trelleborg’s CEO Malin Collin presented flowers and a plaque to the vessel’s captains Wojciech Żukowski and Adam Kowalski. The port’s representatives also received a guided tour of the impressive ferry.
Jantar Unity will operate the Trelleborg–Swinoujscie route with five to six departures per week. Unity Line has operated the route since 2007 and with the addition of Jantar Unity, the vessel Gryf will be replaced. This means that three vessels are now operating on the line: Jantar Unity, Epsilon and Copernicus.
Jantar Unity is the first of a new series of modern Ro-Pax ferries built in Poland. On Saturday, there was an official christening ceremony in Szczecin, which attracted several thousand spectators. The name Jantar means amber in Swedish – a symbol with strong roots in the Baltic Sea region.
— I am impressed by how Jantar Unity combines modern technology with tangible environmental improvements, while the vessel adds capacity and enables more efficient operations. It is a vessel that meets both today’s and tomorrow’s demands for sustainable and reliable transports. The Port of Trelleborg is very pleased that Unity Line has chosen to deploy its new vessel into service between Trelleborg and Swinoujscie. It consolidates our position as Scandinavia’s largest RoRo port, says Malin Collin, CEO of the Port of Trelleborg
Modern and efficient LNG hybrid ship
Jantar Unity is 195.6 meters long and 32.2 meters wide. The vessel is equipped with an advanced and environmentally friendly propulsion system consisting of four LNG engines supplemented by batteries in a hybrid system. The solution contributes to significantly reduced CO₂ emissions. Jantar Unity has capacity for approximately 4,100 cargo meters of goods, up to 400 passengers and a crew of around 50 people.
Polsca – new jointly owned company
Jantar Unity is painted with Polsca’s logo, which stands for Poland Scandinavia. Polsca is a newly established and jointly owned company between Unity Line, Polferries and EuroAfrica Shipping Lines. For the time being, all the bookings will be made via Unity Line, until Polsca is fully established.
Port of Trelleborg wishes the shipping company and the crew the best of luck and we look forward to continued good cooperation!
