Our new modern treatment plant, which was put into operation at the end of 2023, received approximately 45,000 cubic meters of waste water (sewage) in 2024. This is equivalent to approximately 18 Olympic swimming pools of waste water that would otherwise have ended up in the Baltic Sea.
The vessels’ waste water is led to a large tank and then undergoes purification in the plant’s technical building. Here, metals such as copper and zinc are separated, for example. When the process is completed, a dry sludge remains and the purified water is sent on to the municipal sewage treatment plant for further purification.
