Port of Trelleborg is building for the future
Port of Trelleborg is now realizing Vision 2025 and the expansion and the relocation of the port towards southeast is in an expansive phase. Ferry berths no.11, 12, 13 and 14 as well as a new sideramp for ferry berth no.10 is now completed. Waterfront, the port’s new office and service buildings, is expected to be completed in June 2023. Port of Trelleborg is also planning to invest and build new yards, a new check-in and port entrance and access road from the east side.
Since the port expansion started, Port of Trelleborg has extended Sweden by 550 meters south, built 3 km long new breakwaters, used 600,000 tons of stone taken by sea from Halmstad, dredged 1.7 million cubic meters, created 50 hectares of new land where there was previously sea and there are now 5,400 meters of quay in the port.
The expansion of the port follows the plan, which means that everything will be completed in 2025 when Port of Trelleborg will make room for “Kuststad 2025”, which is an urban development project in the Municipality of Trelleborg. Port of Trelleborg’s relocation also means that parts of the former port area will be released for Trelleborg’s new urban area “Sjöstaden”, with room for at least 4,000 homes as well as premises for businesses and services, in an attractive and central location in the town of Trelleborg.
Environmental benefits
The relocation of the ferry berths to the southeast means significant environmental benefits, the air quality, amongst other, as the ship traffic moves further away from the central of Trelleborg. The move to the new berths is also made with the aim of shortening the time and increase the safety of maneuvering the vessels within the port area, which is of great importance to Scandinavia’s largest RoRo port with more than 30 arrivals and departures every day.
Film about the port’s development
Port of Trelleborg has launched a new film that shows the port development in Scandinavia’s largest RoRo port.
In our previous film “Port of Trelleborg is building for the future”, you could see how the port could conceivably look like when we expand and move the port to the southeast. Now we are there. We have done what we said we would do. Now we are moving forward!
We would like to invite you on our journey for the future in our Trelleborg. Come along and feel the rhythm of the port, from early morning to late night in the best RoRo port in Europe.
