The tourists increased their travel to and from Port of Trelleborg in 2022

Port of Trelleborg summarizes 2022 and notes that the number of cars and passengers has had a positive development during the past year. The upward trend looks set to continue in 2023 as well, when the port’s new customer FRS Baltic starts up the route to Sassnitz again. The port can thus once again offer five destinations to Europe – Travemünde, Rostock, Sassnitz, Swinoujscie and Klaipeda. The development for truck and trailer traffic in the period 2020 to 2022 has increased by nearly 11 percent, despite challenging years due to the pandemic and the war in Ukraine.

The number of passenger cars that came to or from the Port of Trelleborg in 2022 was 372,459, an increase of 23.8 percent, and the number of passengers who passed through Trelleborg was 1,631,913, which is an increase of 11.9 percent.

The Port of Trelleborg has consolidated and strengthened its role as Scandinavia’s largest RoRo port (rolling goods traffic) where we have now dealt with COVID-19 in 2020 to 2021 and in 2022 an even worse crisis in connection with the war in Ukraine.

Despite these difficulties, our development for truck and trailer traffic in the period from 2020 to 2022 has increased by 10.7 percent, where 2022 shows a slight decrease in the traffic by 1.9 percent. The main reason is the driver shortage that already existed in the market, was reinforced by the fact that approx. 100,000 Ukrainian drivers have been forced to participate in the war against Russia. Regarding the handling of trailers, it increased by 2.3 percent and the intermodal traffic continues to have a positive trend where we increased our volumes by 4 percent in 2022. Port of Trelleborg’s logistics operation has had a markedly higher fill rate in its warehouse during 2022, the increase is 23.9 percent.

We can already state that our result is in accordance with our budget for 2022, which can be described as very good considering the extreme cost development in 2022. (The figures will be presented when the annual report is official.)

− Port of Trelleborg is looking forward to a new year with great challenges, but for which we are well positioned and where we will be very proactive in strengthening our position as the best RoRo port in Europe as well as the Baltic Sea’s most environmentally friendly port, says Jörgen Nilsson, CEO of Port of Trelleborg.
