Side ramps – for increased capacity and efficiency

You may be aware that the Port of Trelleborg has built six new ferry berths during the expansion of the port in recent years, but did you know that we have also invested in side ramps in the ferry berths?

Within the EU project “Digi-MoS”, ferry berths no. 10 and no. 13 have been adapted with a new side ramp. These are significant investments made with the aim of increasing the capacity and efficiency of the new LNG hybrids Green Ships from TT-Line during loading and unloading.

The side ramps are approximately 100 m long and two-lane, which means that loading and unloading can be done faster, is more flexible and provides smoother goods flows.

Ferry berth no. 10 can also be unloaded and loaded from three directions simultaneously, which is extremely time-efficient. Other concrete advantages of side ramps are better internal logistics in the port and shorter berthing times for the vessels. This is of utmost importance for Scandinavia’s largest RoRo port with high traffic intensity and up to 30 calls per day.

The project has also granted a permit application for LNG bunkering in ferry bays 10 and 13.

The EU project “Digi-MoS” also includes the installation of new cameras to improve traffic flows in the Port of Trelleborg as well as measuring equipment to be able to measure the amount of fresh water, black and grey water, onshore power and troubleshooting in a more efficient way.

The project was completed on December 31, 2025, and is co-financed from the European Commission’s fund for a connected Europe, the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).
