Port of Trelleborg, which is expanding and developing the port at a high pace, has also had a very positive development in terms of volumes when we sum up the first six months of 2021.
Scandinavia’s largest RoRo port can see increased volumes in all segments when we compare the 2021 figures compared to 2020 and in several segments the figures are extreme.
As for trucks and trailers, we have handled 456,000, which is just over 77,000 more than the previous year and this corresponds to an increase of 20.4 percent.
Our assessment is that the increases that occur across all of our four destinations depends on many factors, among others increased e-commerce and the building trade as some of the reasons, along with that we and our shipping companies have an even better customer offering with the best RoRo port in Europe as a base.
In conventional rail traffic, Port of Trelleborg has handled 14,800 wagons, which is an increase of 53.1 percent and in intermodal traffic (combination of the traffic types sea, railway and road) the strong development continues since 2020 and we have handled 17,600 units and this corresponds to an increase of 47.4 percent compared to 2020.
It is gratifying to note that the passenger car traffic is starting to return when the restrictions now begin to ease. We have positive figures for passengers and car traffic with an increase of about 8 percent in both segments and here the figures will be significantly higher when we sum up Q3 as the booking situation with our shipping companies is at a significantly higher level than in 2020.
We would like to take the opportunity to thank our customers, customers’ customers, partners and partner ports for a good collaboration during the pandemic that has affected us all in different ways. Take care of yourself and enjoy the summer!
