The Port of Trelleborg continues its commitment to sustainable shipping. Ferry berth no.8 will now be equipped with onshore power, enabling Stena Line’s vessels to connect to electricity while alongside.
For several years, Stena Line has already been using onshore power at ferry berth 9 for its two rail ferries, Skåne and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The expansion to ferry berth 8 marks the next step, allowing even more vessels to be supplied with fossil-free electricity while in port.
By connecting to onshore power, vessels can switch off their auxiliary engines during their stay alongside. This significantly reduces emissions of carbon dioxide (CO₂), nitrogen oxides (NOₓ) and particulate matter, while also lowering noise levels in and around the port.
The electricity supplied comes from the Port of Trelleborg’s two wind turbines, ensuring that the vessels are powered by fossil-free electricity. This investment represents another important milestone in the port’s long-term efforts to reduce its climate impact and support the transition to more sustainable shipping.
Actemium has been awarded the contract to install the shore power system at ferry berth 8. The installation is scheduled for completion in Q2 2027.
