Today Unity Line is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Port of Trelleborg! Since 5 February 2007 Unity Line run ferry services between the Port of Trelleborg and Swinoujscie in Poland. The celebration took place at lunchtime on board at M/S Gryf for specially invited guests which were treated to a magnificent buffet.
A 70-year history
Ferry traffic between Sweden and Poland started for the first time after the Second World War. Ports were then Trelleborg and Gdansk. During the first half of the 50th century the traffic stopped, but started again towards the end of the 60th century. This time the traffic was between Ystad and Swinoujscie. With Poland’s EU membership in 2004 the expectations grew that trade between Sweden and Poland would develop. Unity Line Ltd, based in Szczecin, contacted the Port of Trelleborg to explore possibilities for a transport route between Trelleborg and Swinoujscie. Both the Port of Trelleborg as well as Unity Line considered that the establishment of Trelleborg would widen the catchment.
Positive trade and tourism
The service began in February 2007 with two RoRo ferries – M/S Gryf and M/S Galileusz. Thanks to the positive development a third ferry could soon be deployed on the route, the M/S Wolin. The new route has benefited the trade between Poland/Central Europe and Scandinavia.
The shipping company’s ferry fleet is adapted to handle all types of passenger and goods transports, whether it is via rail, truck or car. Daily departs three departures between Trelleborg and Swinoujscie. In the years that Unity Line has operated Trelleborg, the volumes have increased by more than six percent per year. The trend indicates continued positive trade and tourism.
Port of Trelleborg wishes Unity Line best of luck and look forward to continued good cooperation.
