The Swedish Transport Administration visited Port of Trelleborg

Today we had Anna Wildt-Persson and Magnus Gustavsson from the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) visiting Port of Trelleborg. Anna Wildt-Persson is the new regional director at Trafikverket southern region and the purpose of the meeting was to give Anna and Magnus a guided tour in Scandinavia’s largest RoRo port and to discuss intermodal rail traffic.

Intermodal transport, i.e. a combination of the modes of transport rail, sea and road, is the most environmentally friendly way to get your goods. The Port of Trelleborg, with the ambition to be Europe’s most sustainable RoRo port, has worked to ensure that a greater proportion of trailers and containers choose the train to and from Trelleborg, a work that has had fantastic development in recent years.

In 2023, 40,000 trailers arrived by rail at the Port of Trelleborg, which is an increase of 12 percent compared to 2022. In 2033, forecasts point to 150,000 units. In order to handle this large number, the Port of Trelleborg needs to rebuild the intermodal terminal. The Swedish Transport Administration is currently investigating the possibility of expanding the freight railway yard in Port of Trelleborg, in order to cope with an increase in capacity in the future.

Thank you for a nice meeting and good dialogues!
