Port of Trelleborg presents a record result of SEK 56.7 million after financial items for 2021. The Port of Trelleborg can look back on a year where operations have strengthened from the corona pandemic, which of course affected us on several levels throughout 2021. The port in Trelleborg is well equipped to handle the increasing freight volumes and passenger traffic of the future in a competitive way.
“Our volumes, which are of historical proportions, have affected our result to fantastic figures also for 2021. The Port of Trelleborg was the only RoRo port in Sweden that had a positive development of truck volumes in 2020 and the upward trend continued in 2021. We have had a very high intensity in the port expansion so I am extra proud of the port’s employees who together with our customers have made sure that we have managed this development in an exemplary way and that the Port of Trelleborg makes its best result ever”, says Jörgen Nilsson, CEO, Port of Trelleborg.
All time high for trucks and trailers
Scandinavia’s largest RoRo port in Trelleborg has had a fantastic development in 2021. Trucks and trailers reached a new record when just over 872,000 units passed through Port of Trelleborg in 2021, which corresponds to an increase of almost 13 percent compared to 2020.
Port of Trelleborg had increased volumes in all types of traffic as well as in the port’s logistics business. Happily, the passenger cars and the passenger traffic also recovered as Covid-19 restrictions eased after the summer.
The port’s strong commitment to intermodal transports (trailers by rail) has been extremely successful and in two years we have more than doubled these volumes. Port of Trelleborg wants to see a continued positive development in this area as it is the most environmentally friendly way of transporting freights, and it is a step in the direction that Port of Trelleborg wants to go, with the ambition of being the Baltic Sea’s climate-smartest port.
The port’s relocation to the east
The expansion of the port follows the plan, which means that everything will be completed in 2025. Port of Trelleborg, who makes all investments itself in the new port, has now come a long way in relocating the port to the east and ferry berths no. 11, 12, 13 and 14 are now ready. The next step is an eastern port entrance and a ring road around the city, that is a prerequisite for the port to relocate its operations and then provide the opportunity to realize “Sjöstaden”, which is part of the urban development project “Kuststad 2025” in the municipality of Trelleborg.
