MVB is commissioned to build Waterfront in Port of Trelleborg

Port of Trelleborg has commissioned MVB to build Waterfront, the port’s new office and service building.

Great focus on sustainability
Waterfront will have a strong focus on sustainability, primarily regarding environment and energy, which is in line with Port of Trelleborg, with the ambition of being the Baltic Sea’s climate-smartest port. The building will be provided with heating and cooling through a geoenergy system. Much of the electricity that the geoenergy plant consumes comes from solar cells located on the roof of the service building (self-produced green electricity).

The building will have three floors and a total area of about 4,800 sqm. The building’s wavy design is inspired by sea and water as well as the steel facade which will change into blue, turquoise and dark gray colors depending on the weather and time of day. With the new building, conditions are created for Port of Trelleborg to gather its entire organization under one roof. The architectural office Arén has designed the building.

We are very much looking forward to the first sod and to MVB building the modern and climate-smart port office and service buildings as we have been planning for many years. Waterfront will be the new landmark for Port of Trelleborg, both towards the sea and towards the city, says Jörgen Nilsson, CEO of Port of Trelleborg.

– The project’s focus on sustainability and climate-smart solutions goes hand in hand with MVB’s vision to contribute to creating more sustainable cities. My hope is that Waterfront will become a house where we smartly combine energy efficiency with function and design, says Thomas Ellkvist, CEO of MVB Syd AB.

Waterfront is part of the ongoing expansion of Port of Trelleborg, which in turn is part of Trelleborg Municipality’s comprehensive urban development program “Coastal City 2025”.

Construction start for Waterfront is in the summer of 2021 and the project is expected to be finished by June 7 in 2023 with the ambition that it will be completed faster.

MVB is one of Sweden’s largest privately owned construction companies and has approximately 500 employees.
