The port constantly renew their vehicles and other equipment so that its environmental performance is at the forefront of technical development.
Some important improvements regarding the vehicle fleet
- Ferry operation
Every year several tug masters are replaced with new ones according to the exchange plan. - Logistics
Policy decision to switch to electric trucks. - Work vehicles
Continuously increased proportion of electric vehicles / hybrid vehicles, which means that fossil-fueled vehicles are gradually being phased out. - Vehicle wash
A modern plant for the purification of wash water has been installed. The purification is based on filter technology with peat. After the oil separator the wash water is filtered through a substrate and heavy metals are absorbed in the filter substrate. Through biological processes the organic fraction (wax, oils, etc.) is purified. The purified wash water is then disposed in succeeding wetland.
Fuel consumption tug masters (liter/h)
2020 – 9,6
2019 – 9,6
2018 – 9,2
2014 – 9,6
2010 – 12,3
The fuel consumption and thus carbon dioxide emissions for the port’s terminal tug masters, has been decreased significant through the above measures. The carbon dioxide emissions from the port’s own vehicles related to handled volume of cargo has dropped steadily since in 2010.
Another very positive development is that the emissions of NOx for the port’s vehicles has been reduced by 60% over the past three years (since 2017), as shown in the diagram above. As a comparison can be mentioned that in 2003 the total emissions of NOx from Port of Trelleborg’s fleet of vehicles were about 30 tons, in 2007 11.7 tons and in 2020=1.5 tons. This is a direct result of frequent exchange of vehicles to the best available environmental class.
