– security system for safer shipping
The international security system, ISPS (International Ship and Port Facility Security Code) for vessels and ports was developed as a response to the terrorist attacks in the US in September 2001. The International Maritime Organisation, IMO, launched the Code on July 2004. The ISPS provides the conditions for a more secure world trade and protects vessels and ports from terrorist attacks. Port of Trelleborg has implemented a number of measures according to ISPS. A security study has identified and assessed a number of potential threats. The plan formed a basis for a detailed security plan on three levels. The security plan defines routines and actions aiming at preventing unauthorised access and tampering with cargo. Trelleborgs Hamn AB has also appointed a security officer who is responsible for implementing the security plan and for the training of staff as well as for contacts with vessels and authorities.
