The port constantly renew their vehicles and other equipment so that its environmental performance is at the forefront of technical development.
Some important improvements regarding the vehicle fleet
|Ferry operation||Every year several tug masters are replaced with new ones according to the exchange plan.|
|Intermodal traffic||A modern locomotive that can run on both rail and road have been obtained. It provides significantly improved environmental performance in terms of reduced emissions and noise. The flexibility regarding the basis has improved the logistics in the port. The locomotive is the first of its kind in Sweden.|
|Logistics||According to the policy decision to the extent possible switch to electric trucks, two older diesel trucks have been replaced by two electric trucks. In addition, the truck fleet is renewed with two 16-ton trucks (diesel with particle purification).|
|Passenger transports||A new passenger bus has been introduced – Scania Citywide, environmental class Euro 5. It has been equipped with additional equipment, among other things 100% particle purification.|
|Combi handling||A new reach stacker, FTMH, was taken into operation in 2015 and during 2017, another older reach stacker will be be replaced.|
|Vehicle wash||A modern plant for the purification of washing water has been installed. The purification is based on filter technology with peat. After the oil separator the washing water is filtered through a substrate and heavy metals are absorbed in the filter substrate. Through biological processes the organic fraction (wax, oils, etc.) is purified. The purified washing water is then disposed in succeeding wetland.|
Fuel consumption tug masters (liter/h)
The fuel consumption and thus carbon dioxide emissions for the port’s terminal tug masters, has been decreased significant through the above measures. The carbon dioxide emissions from the port’s own vehicles related to handled volume of cargo has dropped steadily since in 2010.
Another very positive development is that the emissions of NOx for the port’s vehicles has been reduced by two thirds in recent years, as evidenced by the above chart. As a comparison can be mentioned that in 2003 the total emissions of NOx from Port of Trelleborg’s fleet of vehicles were about 30 tons, in 2007 11.7 tons and in 2015=3.2 tons.
